The Wildcats Tribe Rolls Into Fun! 🛼🎉 On April 5th, the Wildcats Tribe traded in their usual routines for wheels and laughter as we gathered for an unforgettable roller-skating adventure! Hosted by Lucy and her dad, Tony, the event brought together families, friends, and plenty of excitement at Just For Fun Roller Rink in Mundelein. From the moment everyone laced up their skates, it was clear this was going to be a great time. Skaters of all skill levels hit the floor—some gliding with confidence, others wobbling their way into the groove. And let’s be honest… the dads may have provided the most entertainment of all! Many hadn’t bee n on skates in years, but that didn’t stop them from giving it their all (with a few near wipeouts that drew plenty of cheers and laughs). The rink was alive with great music that kept everyone moving, whether cruising along the edges or showing off their best spins in the middle. One of the major activities in the Princess Group is to earn beads. Each girl gets a necklace with a bead just for joining. There are nine starter beads in total. These beads are what allow the girls to move forward to Hey-lush-ka, a leadership position in the tribe. There are three Hey-lush-ka advanced beads to be earned before becoming a hey-lush-ka. This weekend we gathered as a group to achieve our singing bead. To earn this bead, both the father and daughter must learn and sing back the song for the tribe chief. The songs were “America” and “Friends Forever,” which is sung to the tune of Clementine and is about dads and daughters spending time together. In addition to “testing” for the bead, we cooked out breakfast on the grills, just like we do at the campouts. The girls played yard games and after everyone was fed and had earned their beads we all went over to the nearby park and played Capture the Flag. The girls pulled out to a fast lead, but the dads were just getting warmed ...

The Wildcats and Northstars came together as the Sequoia nation for it’s Winter Campout. This year we went back to Camp Red Leaf in Inglside IL. Arriving late Friday evening it was a rush to find bunks and get dinner started. The dinner provided was hot dogs and hamburgers and as the food started to come for the hungry campers another group started to set up a black light dance party for the evenings activity. The dance was a hit! We had prepped for the dance by asking the girls to submit songs they wanted to hear. We had balloons, stickers and paint that would glow, decorations and karaoke for those who were brave enough. The party continued till early morning. We had a number of girls who wanted to earn their night owl patch so they stayed up. What’s the night owl patch? It’s a patch we reward girl who stay up and tend the campfire till early morning. The Northstars had their first Night Owls awarded on this trip, and a few Wildcats earned it for themselves as well. Day two found us ...

The Cardboard Regatta is an annual event hosted by the Phoenix nation. They invite all the local nations so there is representation from all across the Northbrook and surrounding areas. The event has both the Princess and Guides at it. The kids design and build the boats and then waterproof it with tape. The boat building takes multiple days. The kids design the boats and input their ides on the theme of the boat and how it’s built. The dad’s do a lot of the cutting, and the girls do a lot of the assembling, taping and decorating. This is the second year the Northstars have participated. This year we fielded two team, The 67 Marshmallows and the Racing Rapids. The girls hop into the boat and race against one other team, the time is recorded and the top four are are placed back into the water for one final heat to determine the winner. The 67 Marshmallows were able to pull a top four space, putting them back into the water for a final face-off, while the Racing Rapids had a respectable ...

  This year, the Northstar Tribe rang in the new year at Bowlero with bowling, laser tag, and fun. Many of the girls bowled together, making up fun names like Pizza Party Pig, or Abbo, while the dad’s kept it more down to earth. Shortly after starting bowling the food came out. The spread was huge! There was pizza, salad, chicken fingers and fries. We had pitchers and pitchers of soda and water. I think the fan favorite was the churro fries in chocolate sauce. Our event was open to the entire family. It was a great turnout. After a game of bowling, we retired to the arcade, not only to play games, but to blast each other in not one, but two rounds of laser tag. Dad’s were blasting daughters, tribe leaders were sniping from the roofs, and one of our members found a place to hide and blast the opposing teams base with out taking a hit. Next, we had a sparkling apple juice toast to cap off the perfect afternoon. Just one of the lanes we had reserved.

The Northstars held a Mario Kart Tournament this winter. It’s always hard to find something to do indoors but still find a way to include the values of the Princess Program. The best we could do was a tournament, pitting father against daughter. While that may sound like it goes against the idea of “friends forever,” a little healthy competition can go a long way in making lasting memories. We had three TV’s going so we could move quickly through the brackets. It was great to see the girls cheering each other on when it wasn’t their turn. We had a great space to set up in. The community room at one of our members apartment complex was perfect. The adjoining conference room was great for eating pizza after the matches. The shuffle board was a huge hit (and a huge mess). We also did this as a last hurrah for our Halloween costumes. We gave the girls one last reason to bust out those costumes and show off to their friends.
