Voulnteer Afternoon at Feed My Starving Children

One of the pillars of the Princess Program is service. Not only to your family, but to your community as well. The Northstars thought we ought to aim higher, and went for service to the world.

We took an afternoon and volunteered our time at an organization called Feed My Starving Children. It's a completely donation funded organization that packs and ships dried food all over the world. That was our job, packaging up and boxing the food to be ready for world wide distribution.

The process was one person would hold the bag under a funnel, the next would put a scoop of powdered vitamins in, then dried vegetables, then soy, then rice.  That would get weighed and passed to a person who was sealing and boxing them. 

Every time you fill a box you are supposed to yell out and everyone cheers for all the tables on the packing floor. We decided we would yell "Northstars!" 

The best part about this whole trip was seeing the way the girls eyes were opened. We are truly lucky to not have to worry about where our next meal is coming from and this gave our kids ownership in something larger. One of the girls was asking when we could come back next.

Our group was able to pack enough food to feed 136 children for a year! It's a number that made a huge impact on our girls. Mine are still talking about it and telling people 3 days later.

We were able to convince some of the Wildcats to join. It's always nice to get the tribes together outside of the camp outs.

After two hours, we were beat. I hear that some of the girls even napped on the way home they were so tired!
